Refresh your look with these 2021 spring hair trends

Say goodbye to 6-inch roots and bad lockdown hair trims, and hello to beautiful 2021 spring hair. This latest lockdown, and winter gloom, can’t come to an end soon enough. From the 12th of April, it is looking likely that hairdressers will be able to once again throw open their doors and welcome back their clients with open arms. Whether you’re looking to embrace a new look, or just want to feel like your old self again, there are 3 spring hair trends that always look great. Get inspired as we shake off the winter and welcome in the lighter and warmer spring days.

Natural-looking balayage spring hair

If you're keen to lighten up your look after a long, dark winter, try balayage for a beautiful sun-kissed look for spring. Professionally done balayage is a technique that lightens your hair without using foils. The pre-lightener is painted directly onto your hair, meaning your stylist can create a more natural-looking style.

Balayage creates a softer look and root re-growth is much less obvious than traditional highlights, but the colour may fade without proper maintenance. So, how can you take care of your new balayage hair at home?

To slow down any fading, try washing your hair slightly less frequently, and use a cooler water temperature. Use a gentle shampoo for highlighted hair, which is designed to prevent fading, such as Kérastase Reflection Bain Chromatique Gentle Shampoo.

Balayage uses pre-lightener to lighten your hair, which can make your hair dryer than un-coloured hair, and more prone to breakages. A good-quality hair conditioner, such as Blonde Absolu Cicaflash nourishes dry hair and will leave your hair looking its best.

New look spring hair with beachy waves

Nothing quite says spring and summer like carefree wavy hair, but how do you get beachy waves at home? This fun hairstyle is a relaxed and easy look and there are a few ways you can re-create this look at home.

If you prefer to go heat-free, the easiest way to get wavy hair is to leave your hair in plaits overnight. Start with freshly washed hair and let it dry naturally. Once it is almost dry, but still slightly damp, divide your hair into 2 or 3 sections and start plaiting. To give your hair a relaxed look, don’t plait too near to the head and leave an inch of hair at the bottom. If you have time to let it dry, then this look can be created in the day, but otherwise leave the hair to dry overnight. The next morning, gently un-braid the hair and voila – beautiful loose waves.

If you prefer a quicker route, then a 3 barrel hair curler, such as the Avenue waver, or a large barrel curling wand create the same easy, relaxed beachy waves in no time at all. Be sure to use a good heat protector when using a heated appliance, such as Nutritive Nectar Thermique Heat Protector.
